Virginia And Gene
Welcome to Virginia and Gene's Homepage, OUTAHERE. OUTAHERE has been created for our friends, our families and ourselves, the name of our Blog will change when we finally hit the road fulltime in our 45 ft Motorhome, so OUTAHERE is relevent to our current location which is in our big home in New York, which we will leave behind in the near future for our much smaller rolling home. Now that you understand the basics here is one more play on words, our motorhome will be called THE RIGBEE, we will have some kind of decal with a
, my wifes maiden name is Rigby, so our motorhome will be THE RIGBEE, now that all that stuff is out of the way, sit back, get comfortable and enjoy reading about our process as we transition from middle aged homowners-------To Reborn Road Warrior Adventurers, one more thing, they dont know it yet, but our three cats are coming along, see you on the road, Gene and Virginia
Happy New Year

Just got back from Myrtle Beach, we had a ball, got out of NY just before the big storm hit, unfortunately our good friends did not make it out in time, they got snowed in, we missed them.... The weather for the most part was great, my mother came with us and had a good time {i think}....here is a shot of the Rigbee, we had a lake front site. The Rigbee performed great, with every outing we are more satisfied with the selection we made for an RV. The snow in NY is mostly melted, it is around 50 degrees also {at least for today} however we will be making our plans for FEB, back to Willow Tree, we cant wait....RIP Uncle Norman, Happy New Year To All, make it count,,G&V
Outahere
My friend Jonathan Skiba is really Outahere, i got a sad phone call yesterday afternoon by his secretary informing me that a few hours ago Jonathan had a heart attack and did not survive. Jonathan was 57 and one of the nicest most gentle people i had ever met. I had spoken the Johnathan just a couple of days ago, he was doing some legal work for me, Jonathan was a good lawyer and a good friend, always there for me and my family . RIP Jonathan, you will be missed, G&V............
Its been a long while
I know, i have been MIA as it pertains to our Blog, but soon enough we will be on the road and posting photos and other entries daily. Lets catch up on Thanksgiving, we had thanksgiving at our home, Virginia cooked an incredible meal, i ate and got annoyed at the kids running around our house....the good news was Friday morning, we woke early. got picked up and dropped off at the airport, by 2 PM we where in Myrtle Beach at the Rigbee. It had been about a month since we last saw the Rigbee, i got in, tried to start it up to move it to our site,,,,,DEAD BATTERY, UMMMM, fortunately the guy with us had cables, we jumped the generator, the genny then charged up the Rig batteries, a few minutes later we where rolling. We had about 5 days to relax and find out what went wrong that caused the batteries to drain. I checked all the basics, then called an onsite RV Tech named Ron, we mostly chatted, then began to trouble shoot, sometimes these electrical things can be trickeee. Ron and I where kneeling down at the battery compartment, checking things out when we noticed a hairline crack in one of the batteries, that had to be the culprit... I changed out 2 of the 4 batteries, everything seemed fine...How fine ,we will only really know the next time we go down and start her up.....We plan to go down around Christmas, dates to be determined, i will keep you posted. Everyday Virginia and I share the excitement of this life, the excitement of things to come, and the good fortune we share in our relationship with each other. We are also grateful to our friends and families for being here to share the open road with us, PEACE , G&V....
Happy Columbus Day
Virginia and I are in Virginia (HOW ABOUT THAT), ITS A BEAUTIFUL Monday, and we could not be happier, the Rigbee has us safe and sound, the Rigbee performed perfectly a real pleasure to drive...We left Rhinebeck late Saturday afternoon, something i dont normally like to do, we like to be off the road before dark whenever possible. We ended up pulling into a Wallmart around 8PM, asked the manager if it was ok to stay, did a little shopping, had dinner at Applebees, then turned in as a few more truckers and RVers pulled along side us for the night. Wallmart askes that you be out by 7AM, so at 6:30am i did the outside walkaround inspection, stowed a few things, and at 6:59 AM i was rolling down the road while Virginia slept. Sunday early morning is a great time to drive, 45ft long and you being the only one on the road is a good feeling.....Yesterday afternoon we pulled into Stoney Creek Resort (they have a website if you want to google it) around Waynesboro Virginia. This is a fairly remote CG, very tight roads leading into the park, and even tighter inside, we managed to pick our way through and safely park the Rigbee, a few hairy moments, but no harm done, i am getting better with each challenge. We will stay here a couple days, explore, relax, then Tuesday morning we will continue south toward Gaffney SC.....Stay Tuned Have a great day, Hug the people you love.........G&V
Sorry For the dead Blog
So long since our last post, the day to day Grind at work has been the theme for the past 3 months. In my defense this Blog is about the RV life and since we have been parked for the majority of the summer in one place, ( Rhinebeck, NY) there has been little to report except our fun filled weekends up here. I am happy to report last night all that has changed........, at 5:30pm Virginia and i boarded a train out of Huntington, arrived at Penn Station, boarded an Amtrak for Rhinecliff, then took a taxi to Rhinebeck, a nice little adventure. The reason for our train adventure? moving the Rigbee to South Carolina for the winter.....our destination is Willowtree RV resort in Longs SC, OVER THE NEXT 9 DAYS we will journey south with a few surprise activities along the way, so hold on, come along, we will keep you posted. Friends are staying with our Kitties back home, and the road is ours. G&V.........
A Real Good 4TH
We had a great July 4TH weekend, A lot of family and friends visited, it was an action packed , i needed Tue and Wed to recover. It was fun showing off The Rigbee, everyone really liked it. We also got to go on a few short hikes, saw more of the Rhinebeck area, and went out for dinner with everyone Sat night. That leads me to an interesting story, we showed up at a Rhinebeck restaurant, Terrapin, our reservations where for 6:30, we where prompt only to find out there was a wedding and no reservations where supposed to have been taken. Virginia explained that they where made 2 weeks ago, they just stood there with stupid looks on there faces maintaining there was nothing they could do. Fortunately GIGI, a restaurant next store was able to seat us. We will not be going back to Terrapin again. Other than that, everything was perfect. This weekend will be significantly more quiet, we have to take the Rigbee in for a new wheel seal on Monday about 45 minutes south of Rhinebeck, we will also get an oil change and lube, first service for the new Rig. More next week, thanks for checking in, A Shout Out To Aunt Connie, we are really looking forward to getting on the road, and heading out your way, the clocks ticking and we are working toward our dream.... G&V.....
Big 4TH Weekend Coming Up
This past weekend was interesting, Rhinebeck was beautiful as always, on Monday we had an appointment for an inspection, it turns out the Rigbee needs a heavy duty special inspection just because i live in Suffolk County NY. Most other parts of the country require little, easy, or no inspections, but not Suffolk. So we navigate out of Interlake ( Not Easy) get to the inspection station, guys lays underneath, discovers a blown wheel seal, Fails inspection. The saga will now continue, another Monday in july we have an appointment at Freightliner South of our location, they will do the seal, along with an oil change and Lube, it will all get done, just not on my schedule. We are expecting great weather this weekend, friends and family will be visiting us in Rhinebeck, we are very excited to share this special place with them. I will be working on the maintenance log and posting it on our Blog hopefully some will find it interesting, till next time, Goodbye For Now, G&V.....
Been Awhile
Sorry for the long delay since our last post, it seems like life is speeding up, all the more reason to get on the road ASAP. This past weekend we took mother to Rhinebeck, the weather was perfect, and we all had a nice time. I finally brought a ladder up and managed to get up on the roof of the Rigbee and clean it off along with the awnings. The campground was pretty full up with a group from conn, they where all members of an RV club that travels together every weekend. The group seemed to have a great time, Pot luck dinners, afternoon teas, campfires every night. Virginia and I took the literature, it turns out the club is nationwide and has been around for 59 years. One day we will join a few of these clubs and jump in and out of these organized trips as we feel the need to socialize. I think most of time we will go it alone and just visit with friends and family that we meet along the way. One more thing, the campground looks great, the pool is open, flowers are blooming, and the snack bar is in full swing. Virginia and i love going on our walks, meeting all types of dogs , Virginia even carries a few dog biscuits with her and passes them out to all the pooches we meet. Thanks for checking in, more to come, G & V.......
Happy Birthday Virginia
Happy Birthday Virginia, I love you, Life is a blast with you, I hope to celebrate your birthday 1,000,000 times with you, Gene.
There is Hope
While at Rhinebeck this weekend i noticed 3 really nice Rigs checking in Sat afternoon. Climbing out of one of the Rigs was an elderly lady (late 80.s) , she was perfectly put together, not a hair out of place, nicely dressed, almost to nice for a campground. I took notice of them and there Rigs, watched them navigate through the park, on there way to there sites, and then went about my way. later that day while Virginia and I where on our 8'th walk through the campground we ran into the mysterious older lady . We chatted with her for about ten minutes, we found out that she is traveling with her 91 year old husband and 5 other people three of which are in there 90's. The three men driving where all WWII Vets, all former pilots, the womens husband was even a POW, shot down over Germany. Virginia and I walked away feeling so encouraged by what we had just witnessed. It turns out that every year for the past 10, these three couples take 2 months and drive across the country, they work together and somehow figure out how to make it work. Virginia and I found them to be an inspiration, we hope and pray to have that much energy and enthusiasm at 90 to do what these elderly folks are doing. To everyone out there feeling to old...Guess What, Your Not. G & V.
